Must have been many years ago when this pub had a bowling green. I lived in Queensway from 1936 until 1958 and don`t remember a green there. Had my haircut in the barbers shop nearby, the to let shop in the photo, next door I think it was.

I have always loved these red brick buildings which typify Wigan to me. I think they are so distinguished.

Ernest. I belive the "Bowling Green" was actually accross the road. Sort of - at the top of coppull lane. Although cant confirm

The bowling green was indeed across the road. I played there as a child in the early 60s. The blocks of flats - Newton Place?- are built there now.

Been in this pub many times, passed by thousands of times , but i have never noticed the house to the left on the pic.

Remember this well in the late 40`s we took "shopping"to the owners every saturday from a relation in danesway ave?.and got sixpence for our troubles! Thinking about it now ...it was a heck of a walk from langdale avenue !
