Does anyone remember a big glass fronted chippy close to Wigan Town Centre, near the bingo hall? It was owned by the Slater family who had kids named John, Jack and Rita?
Any help much appreciated.

Foun it whilst browsing quite a while ago. Pity other communities don't have such excellent sites. I lived in coppull until 1953, my mums family lived in Rose ave Wigan until approx 1938,I was wondering if anyone could remeber them and fill some bits of family history in for me. Their name was Bailey they had children named Jane,William(billy)Mary,Agnes,Margaret and Thomas parents name were Margaret and Thomas. Jane married George Hesketh she died in 1939 Billy was killed in Greece during ww2> Mary married Thomas Gardiner Agnes married Harry Robinson he ended up as manager of trencherfield mill I think.My mum married Thomas Heyes from Coppull. I am specifically interested in the Bailey side of the family my grand mother was a Scully. Before living in Rose Ave they lived down Hardybutts. The Baileys came from Hindley. |

I was looking through the site and notice that my nanna had been mentioned Molly Fouracre the well known wigan singer i just wanted to tell everyone that sadly my nanna (Molly Fouracre) died yesterday thursday 19th august 2010 Please anyone who new my nanna get in touch wiv me and i will give you details of the funeral which is next friday. Inno that my nanna will be sadly missed not only by our family but by her friends and followers thankyou xx |

i would like to ask you owd wiganers especially folk from half way house area if you could settle a runnin debate between mi bro and me which is ( at the top of tunstall lane and ormskirk road was there ever a big lamp standard in the middle of the road it would be near the friut& veg shop my bro says it was there after second world war until mid 1950s iwas born at 460 ormskirk road thats roughly in middle of video shop now that were in 1947 my parents were THOMAS & ELIZABETH WINSTANLEY there is eldest wilfred,margaret,alan(me)&anne so is anyone can shed a light on this it would help solve this between wilf&me ( shed a light is that a pun or what) |
