Hello Brenda. My friend has a map of the early 1840s showing Rock HOUSE.....If that wasn't actually the farmhouse, then I would imagine it was in the same area. Rock House was in Lower Ince approx. where the large pub (now closed down) stands on the left-hand side of Warrington Road going towards Wigan, just before you get to the railway bridge that crosses over the road near to what was Twiss's Bakery. The pub lastly went by an Irish name which I can't bring to mind, but before that it was always known as The Big Rock. There was a "Little Rock" pub on the other side of the road, and I think the proper name was The Rock Ferry Inn. Hope this helps.Good Luck.
Hi Irene - that helps a great deal! My cousin Joan and I are researching our family tree and neither of us has been able to find out where it is. But that sure pinpoints it for us - and we're in the right area. Many thanks!
Hi Bob - Isn't it a shame that old places disappear and we have such trouble finding our family tree because of that, especially living across the pond. Then I thought of Wigan World and hey presto - suddenly it's a real place and other people have heard of it. Thanks to all who responded! Brenda
